DHARAMSHALA: Visiting Shiksha Kendra School for underprivileged children in New Delhi on Saturday, His Holiness the Dalai Lama said efforts to educate poorer section is “really wonderful” and termed education as the real method to close the gap between rich and poor.
“The work being carried out here is not just an act of compassion, but a real method to develop the whole nation,” His Holiness said in his address to hundreds of underprivileged children.
“The gap between rich and poor people, and corruption in today’s world are a very serious matter. So in order to reduce this rich and poor gap, I think, the most important thing is education. Those underprivileged people, through education, get self-confidence, which will help on reducing the gap,” he said.
“The richer side must provide education and training to the poorer section. The latter must also work hard using the self-confidence which they get through education. So, the real method lies in both sides taking equal responsibility. National and religious boundaries are secondary, what is most important is that we are same human being, with equal right to achieve a happy life,” His Holiness added.
“You are doing a wonderful work in making special efforts to help the children of the poor families. I want to offer a contribution of Rs 5 lakh for this work. Please carry on your work continuously in the future. Hopefully, if the number of children increases, I will donate as much as I can from the royalty that I get from my writings,” he added.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama also delivered the Penguin Annual Lecture entitled “Art of Happiness” in New Delhi on the same day.
His Holiness has arrived at the Tibetan settlement of Gurupura, Hunsur in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. His Holiness will give teachings from 5 – 7 December on Commentary on the Five Stages by Nagarjuna written by Panchen Lobsang Choegyan at Gyudmey Tantric Monastery.
