His Holiness Visits Chauntra
Dharamsala 19 November: His Holiness the Dalai Lama left Dharamsala this morning on a three-day visit to Chauntra Tibetan settlement in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. After receiving a long life prayer offering, His Holiness will inaugurate the newly built Dzongsar Shedra monastery today. Also attending the inaugural function this afternoon are Raja Virbhadra Singh, the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, Mr. Pema Jungney, the Chairman of the assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies and Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, the Kalon Tripa.
The function will begin with the lighting of butter lamp by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Raja Virbhadra Singh. After an introductory speech by the monastery’s abbot Kunga Wangchuk, His Holiness will address the gathering. Raja Virbhadra Singh, Mr. Pema Jungney and Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche will also speak at the function.
Schools and Tibetan communities of the area will present cultural performances for the guests.
His Holiness will be giving a teaching on Atisha’s ‘lamp to the path of enlightenment (Bodhipathapradipam)’ tomorrow to the public. On the last day of the Chauntra visit, the public will be given a long life initiation of Tsepakmey by His Holiness who will also inaugurate the TCV School, Chauntra, later in the day.
