Dharamshala: His Holiness the Dalai Lama will depart from Dharamshala for Amravati in Andhra Pradesh, where he will confer the Kalachakra teachings, tomorrow morning.
As requested by the Japan-based Busshokai Foundation through Norbulinka Institute, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has kindly consented to bestow the Kalachakra initiation in January 2006.
The preliminary teachings will begin on 5 January. However the actual Kalachakra initiation will be given on 13 and 14 January.
Amravati, which was also known as Dhanyakataka, is the place where the Lord Buddha, 2550 years ago, revealed the Kalachakra teachings for the first time. Thus it is considered as one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage centres in India.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave the first Kalachakra initiation in 1954 at Norbulinka in Lhasa, capital of Tibet and this is the 30th one.
