His Holiness to Attend ‘Bumtsok’
Dharamsala, 30 September 2003: His Holiness the Dalai Lama will attend the annual Maha Guru prayer offering (Bumtsok- Tibetan Buddhist ritual that involves distribution of food and edibles on large scale to the devotees) at the Tsuglakhang main temple tomorrow.
Organised by the Special Frontier Force, the Tibetan regiment of the Indian army, the ‘Bumtsok’ known better amongst the Tibetans as Mangmi Bumtsok (Army Bumtsok) is held every year in Dharamsala. The local Tibetan residents and Buddhists attend this ritual offering that lasts for several days with great devotion.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama will arrive at 6 in the morning to initiate the offering. He will remain in the temple till 9 AM. A huge number of devotees are expected to take part in the prayer beginning tomorrow.
