His Holiness to Address Seminar on Culture of Non-Violence in PuneTuesday, 4 November 2008, 2:31 p.m.
Dharamshala: His Holiness the Dalai Lama will deliver a valedictory address to the 42th Sarvodaya Samaj Sammelan, an annual seminar to be convened by followers of Mahatma Gandhi, at Pune in western India. The seminar will take place from 7 – 8 November.The Sarvodaya Samaj was constituted with the aim of creating a society based on truth and non-violence, a vision conceived by Mahatma Gandhi on 29 January 1948, a day before his martyrdom. It was formally established after an in-depth discussion and deliberations attended by constructive workers and political leaders, including Acharya Vinobha Bhave, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, Acharya Kirpalani and Jay Prakash Narayan, from 13 to 15 March 1948.At the invitation of Sarvodaya Samaj, Kalon Tripa Prof Samdhong Rinpoche will also attend the conference and give a key-note address on a theme titled: “Culture of Non-violence: Non-violence or Destruction”.Kalon Tripa will leave Dharamshala tomorrow for the two-day visit to Pune.
