
New Delhi: On the auspicious occasion of the 81st birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tibetans in Delhi started the celebration with a recitation of prayers in the morning. Mr Kiren Rijiju, honorable Minister of State for Home Affairs, Government of India graced the occasion. He conveyed his greetings and praised His Holiness for being the global icon of peace and nonviolence. He stated that India has been blessed by the benevolent presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Kasur Tempa Tsering, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, New Delhi read Kashag’s statement. Kasur Gyari Dolma, Dr N.K. Trikha, former National Convener of Core Group for Tibetan Cause, India, Mr. Pankaj Goyal, Core Group member and members of Indian Tibet support groups attended the function. The formal program was followed by cultural performances by the school children of TCV Day school, Regional Tibetan Women’s Association and individuals.
The reception started with the short recitation of a prayer by monks of Drepung Loseling monastery. His Eminence the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorjee released the Book on His Holiness the Dalai Lama published and launched by Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Later, Kasur Tempa Tsering formally introduced Kasur Ngodup Dongchung, the new representative of Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Delhi and thanked all the august gathering for their continued support and solidarity for Tibet. This year, Ambassador Dalip Mehta, former secretary of Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India was the main speaker of the event.
More than 300 guest attended the dinner reception, held at Silver Oak, India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
