Tokyo: Tibetans and Japanese in Tokyo celebrated His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s 87th Birthday at Tashi-Delek Tibetan Restaurant on 10 July 2022 at Akebonobashi.
The Office of Tibet – Japan staff, Tselha, attended the celebration where he offered a butter lamp and khata to the portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and thanked the organiser Tashi-Delek restaurant and the participants on behalf of the office.
He further expressed shock and dismay at the tragic demise of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was a great supporter of the Tibetan cause. The Tibetan Administration in exile at Dharamshala has expressed shock and sent condolence messages to the bereaved family. He said Tibetans in Tokyo will soon organise a prayer gathering for the great leader. In addition, he informed the gathering that because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the official celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday has been postponed.
Lobsang Yeshe, the proprietor of the restaurant, welcomed the guests and informed them that the birthday celebration coincides with the 7th anniversary of the Tashi-Delek restaurant.
At the same time, Tenzin Kunsang, a former artist of the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), and Tenzin Genyang, along with some Japanese artists presented Tibetan cultural songs. Dr. Ogawa, who has studied Tibetan medicine at Dharamsala, gave commentary on the Tibetan songs presented at the gathering.
