Dharamshala: His
Holiness the Dalai Lama on Tuesday urged the Chinese government to open
up Tibet to foreign journalists, while making an appeal to the media to
find out the real situation inside Tibet.Addressing a press
conference in New Delhi, His Holiness said China should allow foreign
media to go to Tibet for an “unbiased” reporting.

“If you find that the Tibetans are happy under the Chinese rule, we will drop our struggle,” His Holiness said. On
the prospect of finding a mutually acceptable solution to the issue of
Tibet, His Holiness said: ‘It is very difficult to say what will happen
after 50 years between Tibet and China. But we definitely have more
support and solidarity from within the Chinese community.”Recently,
I was in Poland and I found that the feeling of solidarity in the
European Union for the Tibetan cause was very strong. We are not
seeking secession, but total autonomy,’ His Holiness said.’Everyone
– the European countries, Australia, North America, Australia, Japan
and New Zealand – knows about our position, but the Chinese… It is
your responsibility to make it clear to your government. Otherwise,
your reportage is meaningless,’ His Holiness told a correspondent from
China.His Holiness the Dalai Lama said Tibetans were looking at
a legitimate autonomy that would enable them to live within the
framework of the People’s Republic of China.After the
‘crackdown’ by the Chinese authorities on Tibetan protesters in 2008,
majority of the Tibetans reaffirmed their commitment to the middle-way
policy, His Holiness said.’We are committed to ahimsa (non-violence) and peaceful negotiations,’ His Holiness said.His
Holiness began his day at 7.45 am with a prayer meeting at Gandhi
Smriti on Tees January Marg. In the next five and a half hours, His
Holiness’s motorcade went to seven more places — Acharya Sushil Muni
Ashram, Chilla of Hazarat Nizamudin Aulia, Judah Hyam Synagogue,
Gurdwara Rakab Ganj, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Mahabodhi Society of
India, and Lakshmi Narayan Temple, where His Holiness led prayers for
peace and happiness of the Indian people.’I call myself a son
of India. Over the years Tibetans have developed very close ties with
the country,’ His Holiness said while addressing the prayer meeting.’I
personally think my life in India has been very meaningful and I have
gathered experience from followers of other traditions like Hinduism,
Jainism, Christianity, Islam and Judaism,’ His Holiness added.His
Holiness the Dalai Lama’s day-long programme in the capital, which
ended with a speech at the Ficci auditorium marked the end of five-day
