Dharamshala: His
Holiness the Dalai Lama on Friday underlined that India must play an
active role in propagating ancient Indian thought and concept of ahimsa
(non-violence), tolerance and being compassionate to the world. His
Holiness the Dalai Lama was addressing a convention on Ethics of
Millenium’, organised at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in
Hamirpur, some 95 km from Dharamsala.India’s leading newspaper Hindustan Times termed His Holiness’s visit as a landmark in the history of NIT.NIT director IK Bhatt welcomed His Holiness the Dalai Lama on his arrival at the institute.While
addressing the students, His Holiness said: “I being a Buddhist,
ancient Indian philosophers like Nagarjuna and others have been my
teachers and I owe to them but now time has come when India should play
an active role of masters in teaching their ancient philosophy to the
world.””I my self feel that India has a bigger role to play in
world peace. It is India that taught the world to tread the path of
non-violence,” His Holiness added.His Holiness said that it is
the duty of everyone to work for global peace. Every problem can be
solved through dialogue rather than violence.”Terrorism is also manifestation of aggression caused due to disturbances in the minds,” His Holiness said.Asking
the students to follow the principles of non-violence, His Holiness
said the transparency, truthfulness and honesty are main components of
compassion. “only inner peace can help in developing good quality,” His
Holiness added.His Holiness lauded the efforts of the Indian
government and support of its people towards providing warm hospitality
and education to the Tibetan refugees.“Though many NGOs and
other countries have supported the Tibetan refugees, maximum support
came from India as homeless people found happy home here,’ His Holiness
said.In his discourse on ‘Ethics for new millennium’ His
Holiness also touched philosophical concepts like potentials of human
beings to lead a happy life, what should be done to create happy human
society, importance of logic and philosophy, role of mental level and
being compassionate, secular way of life, concept of love and
non-creation and belief in cause and effect etc.
