Dharamshala: After
successfully concluding a 19-day visit to Canada and the United States,
His Holiness the Dalai Lama returned to a ceremonial welcome in
Dharamsala this morning. Thousands of Tibetans in their traditional dress carrying Khata or
traditional white scarves, flowers and incense, joined by local Indian
residents and well-wishers, lined up on both the sides of the road to
welcome His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The speaker, deputy
speaker and standing committee members of the Tibetan Parliament, Kalon
Tripa received His Holiness at the Gaggal Airport near Dharamsala.
Representatives from both official and non-governmental organisations
were also present at the airport for the reception.

Other
dignitaries of the Central Tibetan Administration, including the Chief
Justice Commissioner, justice commissioners, members of Tibetan
Parliament, members of the Kashag, heads of autonomous bodies and
secretaries of the departments welcomed His Holiness at his residence.
The highlight of the US and Canada visit included the conferment of the
first-ever Tom Lantos Human Rights Award on His Holiness the Dalai
Lama, His Holiness’s meeting with the US governmental officials and
members of Congress, bestowing of the Light of Truth award on Chinese
writers by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

On
15 October, His Holiness will begin a four-day teaching series on The
Diamond Sutra (dorjee chotpa), Geshe Chekewa’s Seven Point-Mind
Training (lojong dhondunma) and Tsongkhapa’s The Three Principal Paths
(lamtso namsum) at the request of Taiwanese devotees at Tsuglagkhang,
main Tibetan temple in Dharamsala. His Holiness will confer the
Avalokiteshvera Initiation (chenresig wang) on the last day, 18 October.
From 20 to 22 October, His Holiness will give teachings on The Four
Noble Truths (denpa shi) at the request of a group of Southeast Asian
Buddhists.
