DHARAMSHALA: On January 4th, 2011, His Holiness the Dalai Lama
took part in an online video conference at his official residence in
Dharamsala. During the interaction, His Holiness responded to questions
posed by three Chinese intellectuals – writer Wang Lixiong from Beijing,
Human Rights lawyer Teng Biao from Shenzhen, and Beijing-based
prominent lawyer Jiang Tianyong. This online interaction is a
continuation of an initiative, in which Chinese people have interacted
with the Dalai Lama via the internet, requested by the Chinese writer
Wang Lixiong in 2010. Earlier in 2010, Chinese netizens were asked to
submit questions to His Holiness. These questions were put to a vote
using Google Moderator. Those questions that scored the highest votes
were put to His Holiness, who then responded to some of them on Twitter.Although
the individuals participating in this discussion were unable to meet
together physically, they were able to see and talk to each other
through the medium of the internet. The two Chinese lawyers asked His
Holiness three questions each from the pre-selected 319 questions, in
addition to one question each of their own. The questions and answers
were relayed through His Holiness’s Chinese Twitter account
(@DalaiLamaCN) and Wang Lixiong’s Twitter account (@wlixiong) and Teng
Biao’s Twitter account (@jtyong). A complete transcript of the questions
and answers will be posted on His Holiness’ official Tibetan, Chinese
and English websites along with a video of the event. [Source:dalailama.com]
