His Holiness the Dalai Lama this morning presided over a special prayer
congregation to observe the customary 49th day of the thousands of
Tibetans who died in the devastating earthquake that rocked Kyegudo in
Tibet on 14 April. Thousands of Tibetans gathered at
Tsuglagkhang (main temple) here to offer special prayers to bring
comfort to all the bereaved family members and for the speedy recovery
of those injured in the tragedy. The entire Tibetan administrative
officials attended the prayer gathering.Under the direction of
the Kashag similar prayer sessions are being simultaneously held in all
the Tibetan community throughout the world.

According to information received from the Tibetan Refugee Welfare Office in
Kathmandu, the Tibetans living in Nepal gathered in their respective
settlements to offer prayers for Kyegudo. The residents of Choejor
Tibetan settlement assembled in their community hall while Gyalphak
residents gathered at Kyidong Thukje Choeling nunnery at Swoyambhu
where His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Representative Mr Trinlay Gyatso attended the prayer session.Earlier His Holiness led special sessions on 27 April and 4 May, which were organised by the Central Tibetan Administration.The
Tibetans in exile had also offered voluntary donations through 4-14
Yushu Earthquake Charity Committee to help facilitate the relief
efforts in Kyegudo.More photos:
