Dharamshala: His Holiness the Dalai Lama interacted with the Superintendent of Police, Kangra District on the topic of drug use. The interaction was held at His Holiness’ residence.
Below is the transcript of His Holiness’ advice to youth.
“India historically, I think this land, I consider the land of spirituality. Over 3000 years, the training of mind called Shamata and Vipassana practice has existed before Buddha.
So, therefore judging from that way India’s tradition is not materialistic tradition. Modern India, I think you neglect the ancient Indian tradition. Therefore young people due to lack of knowledge and experience on how to bring inner peace. So they rely on tranquillisers, drugs and so on and so forth…
These drugs are harmful to physical including too much alcohol and all. I think in school, the teacher should pay attention to how to bring inner peace. Constant anger and fear actually eat our immune system, which has been proven scientifically. So everybody taking care of oneself.
One of the important factors of a healthy body is a healthy mind and emotion. Taking care of our emotion is not necessarily a religious matter. It is simply, how to bring healthy body, happy person, happy family, happy community. Finally, our goal should be happy humanity. In that respect, India can make a significant contribution that none of the others can do.
Teachers should teach and share young student some enthusiasm in paying more attention to our inner value. So that they won’t rely on this drugs or alcohol.”
