Himalaya Parivar to Start Tibet Awareness Programmes in Delhi
Dharamshala 29 June 2005– The annual conclave of the working committee of the Himalaya Parivar has decided to launch a series of Tibet awareness programmes in the capital city of India.
Around 150 people, representing different Himalayan regions, including representatives of Tibet, Nepal, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttranchal, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir attended the day-long annual meeting of the working committee of the Himalaya Parivar at the Arya Samaj Mandir in New Delhi on 24 July 2005.
Present at the function were Indresh Kumar, founder of the Himalaya Parivar and a patron of the Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch, Ramesh Chandra Vajpayee, former air chief marshal, Choekyong Wangchuk, coordinator of the India Tibet Coordination Office, Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, national co-convener of the Core Group for Tibetan Cause and national convener of the Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch and Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, vice president of the Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch.
Monks from the Drepung Loselling Monsatery commenced the function by lighting lamps and offering prayers.
In his keynote address, Indresh Kumar introduced the basic objectives of the organisation as to protect the natural, physical and cultural environment of the Himalaya. And to achieve that, he strongly called for a more active involvement of the Himalayan people residing in the Indian capital city.
Mr. Kumar also said that one of the main objectives of the Himalayan Parivar is to relentlessly support the cause of Tibet.
The second session of the function was mainly addressed by Bhupendra Khansal, national general secretary of the Himalaya Parivar, Choekyong Wangchuk and Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, during which it was decided that a series of activities like seminars, workshops and public gatherings will be held in different parts of Delhi in the months ahead to raise awareness about Tibet.
