Health Kalon Concludes Visits to Tibetan Communities in NepalWednesday, 29 October 2008, 3:59 p.m.
Dharamshala: After successfully concluding his official visits to the Tibetan communities in Nepal, Health Kalon Chope Paljor Tsering returned to India on 26 October. Joint Secretary Tsering Yangkey of the health department accompanied the health kalon during the visit.The health kalon’s visit to south India which include planned meetings with the concerned officials have to be rescheduled due to changes in their programme, an official of the health department said.During his visits to the Tibetan communities located in Kathmandu and Pokhara, the health kalon held meetings with the community leaders and spoke on important health issues, especially on the importance of preventive education on HIV/AIDS. The health kalon also held private meetings with some members of the Government of Nepal. The Lumbini Foundation hosted a warm reception in his honour, which was also attended by members of the Nepalese Constitutional Assembly from all parties, legal advocates, members from the human rights organization and leaders of political parties. While addressing the reception, he expressed his gratitude to the people of Nepal for their support for the Tibetan refugees fleeing Tibet in early 1960s’, while recalling how he was nurtured as an orphan child at that time.He categorically said the Tibetans have no desire whatsoever to use a third country’s soil against China. He also made it clear that His Holiness the Dalai Lama is not seeking separation of Tibet from China, but asking for a mutually acceptable solution to the issue of Tibet through the middle-way approach.The health kalon also called on some of the western diplomats based in Kathmandu and UNHCR officials during the visit and thanked them for their support to the Tibetan community.Feeling concerned over the lack of stable
livelihoods for the Tibetan community due to lack of political and
economic constraints, he expressed hope that a more permanent solution
will be found to their concerns.He expressed great happiness in having the opportunity to meet old Nepalese friends and to make new contacts. He said the new Republic of Nepal is politically more free and the people eagerly looking forward to continued peace and stability. He served in the Tibetan Refugee Welfare Office in Nepal in various capacities from 1978 till 1992, with a brief two years interval while he was deputy secretary in the department of education.
