Health Department’s Psychosocial and Substance Abuse Awareness Programme

Dharamshala: The Dhondenling Hospital of the Tibetan settlement in Kollegal, South India, one of the seven hospitals run across India by the Health Department of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), organised a psycho-social and substance abuse awareness talk to its people earlier this month.
The hospital staff led by Dr. Tenzing Phendey gave talks on the above subject to three groups of people.
The first and second groups consisting of class V to VII students and class VIII to X students were given talks on the positive and negative mental attitude of their age group and how negative attitude breeds substance abuser.

They were also educated on how to cope with mental stress and to prevent negative mental thoughts which leads to mental disorder.
Another such health education was given to over 250 people and monks of Dhondenling village. Psychiatrist Dr. Mahesh from Bangalore was invited to talk to people on depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and how to overcome it.
Similar mental health training and psycho-social programme was given to people of Gurupura Hunsur village in South India on 15 and 16 May.
