DHARAMSHALA: Internet technology giant Google Inc has unveiled a new technology called uProxy to allow bypassing of government censorship and surveillance while surfing the web. The new technology was launched as part of its ‘Project Shield’ initiative to support free expression on the web.
“The company has launched the new technology, as part of a new package of services designed to support “free expression” on the Web and shield news organisations and human rights groups from counter-attacks,” Google said at a presentation in New York on 20 October.
uProxy will be available for Google’s Chrome browser and Firefox but not for rival Microsoft Corp’s Internet Explorer, at least initially, it said.
Google also plans to host sites that frequently came under politically-motivated distributed denial-of-service attacks as part of the initiative.
The uProxy technology will allow users in countries like China to acces the web as it is seen anywhere else in the world. Read Full Report
