The Tibetan settlement at Majnu Tilla was founded in 1963. Popularly known as MT, the settlement was bestowed the name, Samyeling, by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. It was recently renamed new Aruna nagar by Chief Minister Sheila Dixit following its regularisation under the law.
