GCM Football Tournament Kicks Off
Dharamsala 3 June 2005- The 12th Gyalyum Chemo Memorial Gold Cup football tournament kicked off yesterday amid great fanfare and revelry among the thousands of spectators witnessing the opening ceremony at the Tibetan Children’s Village School ground.
Eighteen football clubs from India and Nepal will contest for the most coveted gold cup in a knockout-based tournament organised by the Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA).
The chief guest of the occasion, Mr. Pema Jungney, chairman of the Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies, said that the tournament offers an important arena to foster friendship and raise matters related to the Tibetan cause.
Mr. Jungney thanked the organising committee for their endeavours and urged them to continue organising the tournament in future.
In the first two opening matches Cholsum FC, Delhi defeated Tashiling Potala FC, Pokhara by 3-1 and TCV, Dharamsala defeated Lhaksam, Darjeeling/Gangtok by 5-1.
