French Senators to meet His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala[Tuesday, 18 August 2009, 3:55 p.m.]
Dharamshala: A
five-member delegation of the French Senate will be meeting His
Holiness the Dalai Lama during their visit to Dharamsala due to begin
on 30 August.The delegation will be headed by Mr Jean Francois
Humbert, senator from Franche Comte province in Eastern France
affiliated to the right party. Senator Humbert was first elected to the
Senate in September 1998 and got re-elected in September 2008. He
participated in the first ever official Senate delegation’s visit to
Dharamsala in May 2005.The other members are Mr Jean Pierre
Plancade, senator, affiliated to the Socialist group and member of the
Tibet Information Group; Mr Thierry Repentin, senator, affiliated to
the Socialist Party and member of the Tibet Information Group and Mrs
Jacquelin Panis, senator, ruling UMP or Union for a Popular Movement
and member of the Tibet Information Group. Mr Philippe Brault,
administrator of the Senate and Mr Wangpo, secretary of the Tibet
Bureau in Paris, will be accompanying the delegation.During the
seven-day visit, the delegation will meet with His Eminence the 17th
Gyalwa Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje, the members of Tibetan Parliament
and the Kashag. They will also visit various Tibetan educational,
religious and cultural institutions, and meet with representatives of
Tibet NGOs.His Holiness the Dalai Lama was received by French lawmakers for a meeting at the Senate during his visit in August last year.
