French Legislators Call on His Holiness the Dalai Lama
Dharamsala 24 March, 2005: The French parliamentary delegation comprising of 13 members of the French parliament’s lower chamber called on His Holiness the Dalai Lama today. The delegation of the French parliamentary group for Tibet is currently on a visit here as a part of their observing the year 2005 as the Year of Tibet in France.

The delegation yesterday visited the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies which is session and also met Mr. Pema Jungney and Ms. Gyari Dolma, Chairperson and Vice Chairperson respectively of the ATPD. The delegation also visited various schools and met with the representatives of the non-governmental organisations.

The delegation also met Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, the Kalon Tripa of the Central Tibetan Administration earlier today and briefed him about its activities for Tibet. During the meeting which lasted for almost an hour, the Kalon Tripa reiterated his administration’s commitment towards resolving the issue of Tibet through non-violence and in line with the Middle Way Approach of not seeking independence or separation from China but coexisting with it. The Kalon Tripa and the French legislators discussed Tibet related issues. The Kalon Tripa presented Tibetan traditional scarves and souvenirs to the members of the delegation.
The French legislators later on posed with Ms. Gyari Dolma for the media in front of the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies flanked by the national flags of Tibet and France.
The delegation will meet the media at a press conference to be held at the Lhakpa Tsering memorial hall of the Department of Information and International Relations later today.
