DHARAMSHALA: The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile launched a global flame of truth torch relay on 6 July this year asking the United Nations to act on resolutions that it passed on Tibet following its invasion by the People’s Republic of China.

The campaign demands the United Nations to discuss the issue of Tibet based on the resolutions it has passed in 1959, 1961 and 1965, send an independent international fact-finding delegations to investigate the ongoing crisis in Tibet and to ensure that the basic aspirations of the Tibetans inside Tibet are fulfilled.
The north Indian leg of the torch relay will reach Delhi on 6 October with a welcome reception at Samyeling Tibetan Colony at Majnukatila at 3:00 PM. The torch will begin its journey across the capital city from 8 October and conclude at Jantar Mantar on 15 October, said Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, a member of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile based in Delhi, said in a press release.
During the last 60 years of its occupation, the Chinese government has been carrying out a systematic policy to annihilate the distinct identity of Tibet and the Tibetan people, and plunder Tibet of its natural resources.
“Tibetans inside Tibet have demonstrated indomitable courage and determination to protect our unique culture, spiritual tradition and identity. We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters inside Tibet and make renewed pledge to make the world aware of their sacrifices and aspirations,” Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok said.
An online signature campaign is being organised along with the torch relay to urge international community and people of the world to support the issue of Tibet. The result of the campaign will be submitted to UN headquarters in New York, UN Human Rights Council in Geneva and UN Information Centre in New Delhi on 10 December.
