
SILIGURI: Finance Kalon Mr Karma Yeshi arrived at Siliguri on 19 April and was received by the settlement officers of North East Tibetan communities at Bagdora airport. From the airport, Kalon headed towards Gangtok where he was given a warm reception by vice-chairman of Local Tibetan Assembly, president of BRDL, representatives from Gangtok Municipal Corporation, representatives from various monasteries, organisatons and NGOs and co-ordinators from North-East regions at Gangtok Hotel Tibet.
On 20 April, Kalon held a general public meeting where Kalon delivered a comprehensive speech on the 15th Kashag’s five-fifty policy, importance of maintaining unity among the people, following Middle Way Policy and CTA’s annual budgeting system and other public welfare related issues followed by question-answer session. The next day, Kalon visited monasteries and met Gangtok Chief Administrator with regard to implementation of Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy Act 2014.
On 22 April, Kalon left for Ravangla Tibetan Settlement. There he visited the settlement office, handicraft center, Mentseekhang, monasteries and Sambhota School. Kalon interacted with the teachers and students at the school and extolled the importance of education in resolving the Tibet issue.
On 24 April, Kalon left for Kalimpong and was received by settlement officer, representatives from various monasteries, organisation and NGOs and the school rector. Kalon then visited the settlement office, organisations and monasteries followed by a visit to CST school where he met the school principal, teachers, staff and interacted with the students.
On 26 April, Kalon left for Odlapuri and Jaigaon, and visited community halls and held a general public meeting respectively at both the places.
On 27 April,Kalon left Jaigaon for Salugara in the morning where Kalon paid a visit to the monasteries, Mentseekhang and Chagpori Mentse-khang and held public meetings. Thereafter, he gave a short visit to the Integrated Settlement Development Plan’s (ISDP) Training of Trainers at Salugara. Kalon keenly watched the presentations made by leaders of the each 4 groups of ISDP and then Kalon delivered a wrap-up speech to the ISDP participants.
Kalon is currently on a visit to Darjeeling Tibetan Settlement accompanied by Gyadun Chophel, Joint Secretary of the Department of Finance.
