Dharamshala: The Finance Department of the Central Tibetan Administration carried out a business awareness campaign and focused group meeting programme in all the Tibetan settlements in South India and three settlements in the northern region, namely Dickyiling, Ponta Sahib, and PuruWala from 2 May to 3 June 2006.
Head of the Finance Department’s Research and Policy Unit, Mr. Sonam Dorjee and researcher Mr. Chosang Tendhar attended the programme.
Through this programme, they explained various new ways of doing business. The trainees were introduced to myriad business opportunities in their area and informed of the assistance they can get from government orgranisations like the District Industries Centre (DIC), established by the state government to promote industrial activities in various districts in the state.
In most of the settlements, senior officials from the concerned DIC office were invited to speak on their centre’s activities during which they assured all possible help to Tibetans.
“Feedback from all the settlements we visited was very positive. And they requested us to continue with more such activities. We learnt a great deal from our people by engaging in personal and close interaction with them. We hope this experience will help us in chalking out future strategy with a view to promoting entrepreneurship within the Tibetan exile community “, said Mr. Chosang Tendhar.
From 10 to 22 July 2006, the Finance Department is going to organise its second Entrepreneurship Training Programme in Dharward, Karnataka State.
