Tibet Watch has learned that the family of the political detainee Loten was asked to pay for food supplies for the period of detention before he was forcefully taken to Xiling City to undergo training at a re-education centre.
The source added, “While being detained, security officials asked his family to pay for things like food and cups and plates. They gave 1000 yuan but he was allowed to take only 200 by the security personnel. They were told that food and lodging will be provided by the government upon reaching Xiling.”
Loten was arrested on 12 December 2021, by Chinese authorities and security personnel in Matoe County after he spoke in an online messaging group on WeChat expressing disagreement with the policy of sinicization of the education system in Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Click here to read more.
