Dharamshala: As part of the Year of Compassion celebrations marking the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile organised an exhibition titled “Democracy: A Gift of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the Tibetan People” at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, on 6 November 2025.
The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of Professor John Varghese, Principal of St. Stephen’s College; Dr. Bertram Devedas, Director of the Center for Advanced Learning at St. Stephen’s College; faculty members, students, and organisers from the Tibetan Parliamentary Secretariat.
Professor John Varghese cut the ribbon to open the exhibition and recalled His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to St. Stephen’s College in 2018 for the institution’s Founder’s Day celebrations. He noted that despite living in exile, His Holiness has tirelessly and courageously worked for global peace, an inspiring example for all, especially the youth. As future leaders, he emphasised, young people must pay attention to His Holiness’s life and efforts and draw inspiration from them to serve peace in India and around the world.
During the event, the principal was presented with a book authored by His Holiness, Voice for the Voiceless, which he said he would place in the university library. Following this, Tenzin Menkyi, staff member of the parliamentary secretariat, briefed the gathering on the program and the themes of the exhibition. Professor Varghese carefully viewed each photograph, asking questions and commending the exhibition’s presentation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s noble deeds.
The event, organised with support from Dr. Bertram Devedas and Lord Hongkong, Coordinator of the Center for Advanced Learning at St. Stephen’s College, successfully introduced more than a hundred students to the significant contributions of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the evolution of Tibetan democracy.
The organising team from the Tibetan Parliamentary Secretariat included staff members Tenzin Menkyi, Gyaltsen Gonpo, Phuntsok Gyatso, and Tenzin Paljor.
