The medical paintings were created in 17th century by Desi Sangay Gyatso, the scholar and Regent of Tibet during the Fifth Dalai Lama. The Tibetan unique cultural heritage belongs to the world. And it has much to contribute to our modern world and civilisation. Therefore, it is the moral duty of the world to preserve this unique culture and civilisation, Rabgyal stressed.
The set of 77 Thangka paintings reproduced in Russia was prepared in the 1920s during the time of the 13th Dalai Lama for the training of Buryat doctors and is a faithful facsimile of the originals, which were created between 1687 and 1703 in Tibet. The original paintings are located in Lhasa. The texts of the Tibetan Medical Atlas with paintings were translated into Russian in 1994, running into 587 pages.

There are about 10 Tibetan Amchis (doctors) giving consultation in Russia. Tibetan Meen-tsee-khang in Dharamsala has been deputing doctors to Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States.
