DHARAMSHALA: Kalon Dr Pema Yangchen of the Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration, today inaugurated the 13th orientation program for Tibetan students who have just finished their class 12th examinations. The daylong program is organised by the Guidance & Counseling Section, Department of Education.
In her inaugural remarks, Kalon Dr Pema Yangchen spoke about a range of issues related to students entering college such as the importance of punctuality, preparation, ability to adapt to new environments, health, and the importance of nutritious food to remain mentally and physically fit.
She also advised the students to refrain from indulging in unfavorable activities such as smoking and consuming alcohol which could turn into habits later. She further urged the importance of interacting with students of other nationalities to exchange information about Tibet and learn new things about their culture and traditions. She encouraged the students to inculcate the habit of reading books particularly in the Tibetan language to stay acquainted with the Tibetan language even after school. She said reading and writing in Tibetan will not only help the preservation of Tibetan language but also help you personally in enriching your Tibetan language proficiency.
Ms Dolkar Wangmo, head of Guidance and Counseling section, gave the introductory remarks of the orientation program. She emphasized the development of morality along with education while pursing higher studies in colleges. She also gave a brief overview of the topics that will be covered during the orientation.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Tenzin Choeden, staff of Guidance & Counseling Section, Department of Education.
The daylong orientation program will cover topics such as College Admission Process, Ethics and the Tibetan identity, scholarships by the education department, etc. The program will also feature a motivational talk.
A total of 24 Tibetan students from 5 five different schools are taking part in the orientation program.
