Dharamshala: The Department of Education held the graduation ceremony for the 6th batch of Teacher trainees at Sarah Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies today. Presided over by chief guest Kalon Dr Pema Yangchen of the Department of Education.

Speaking to the gathering Kalon highlighted the significance of the role of teachers, the qualities of a good teacher and the purpose and vision of the education policy- how to guide students in the correct way. In accordance with those principles, recruit Tibetan teachers for Primary schools within the exile community.

The programme (B.Ed in Tibetan studies) began on July 2, 2018, and took about a year and a half for its completion. A total of 21 trainees had enrolled.

The trainees studied the purpose of education, history of education, history and Buddhist philosophy, Tibetan literature, child psychology, environment studies, administration of the school, drawing and handwriting, Buddhist Studies, health and physical education, the methodology of teaching, calligraphy, grammar and creative writing, etc.
Resident Professors at Sarah institute and Guest Professors hired for this programme combined, made up a total of 27 Teaching staff.

The trainees went to 4 different schools for inspection while they stayed for over 2 months at 16 different schools to test their Practical knowledge.


The outgoing batch secured an overall average of 76% and all the trainees graduated with first-class results. The program is funded by USAID.
