DHARAMSHALA: On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, the Department of Education of the Central Tibetan Administration launched a new website ‘tibetanteachers.com’ for teacher professional development yesterday. The new website contains educational resources for teachers, and also provides a platform for teachers to share their knowledge and experience with other educators.
The launch ceremony was attended by over 50 principals and school administrators including officials from the education department, the education director of TCV and the Director of Sambhota group of schools.
In his address at the launch, Education Secretary Ngodup Tsering spoke about the hard work and dedication of teachers towards social emancipation through education, underscoring the priority placed on education by the 14th Kashag.
“The education department under Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay continues to strive for academic excellence in the Tibetan community through our various programs. We acknowledge the important role performed by teachers in this process. Teachers are the vanguard of nation development and crucial in bringing effective and holistic growth in the society,” the Secretary said.
He noted that a good teacher should bear three essential qualities: qualifications; effective method of teaching and determination/resolve to teach.
The website is a part of the education department’s Teacher Professional Development Programme – a major educational project recently undertaken to endorse new paradigms in teacher professional development practices.
Under its Teacher Professional Development Programme, the Department has so far formulated Teacher Professional Manual for Tibetan Schools in India and Nepal, provided workshops for the school heads on Teacher Professional Development, introduced various collaborative practices, and installed teacher’s reading corner in 11 pilot schools.
The Department of Education envision a change in Tibetan school culture through its various professional development steps by encouraging teachers to take ownership of their professional growth, and make collaborative as well as personal effort to improve their classroom practice.
