Dharamshala: A book fair was organised today by the Department of Education at the TCV day school. The same day, the department also released 18 newly printed children’s books and 11 animated cartoons to empower and develop the habit of reading and learning in children as it’s core obejective.
Education Secretary Jigme Namgyal along with the Director of Office of Education Council, President of TCV, DoE’s EGR coordinator, STSS Tibetan Language Mentor, and TCV English Language Mentor was among the chief attendees.
Education Secretary spoke on the importance of reading while highlighting the crucial role of parents in encouraging reading habits in children. Moreover, he emphasised the need for availability of more children books accessible to children. Explaining some of the initiatives taken by DoE, he mentioned that translation of storybooks in Tibetan was among the important projects being implemented. The project which is funded by USAID has so far translated over 18 out of 40 storybooks in Tibetan. The translations of 20 storybooks are underway.
The one-day book fair exhibited books published by DoE, Sherig Publication, TCV school, and Sambhota Tibetan School Society.
