EC Releases Nominations for the Election of 3 Deputies
Dharamsala, 4 June: The Tibetan Election Commission officially released Thursday the final list of six candidates for the election of three deputies due to take place on 2 July. The nominees for two Domed deputies are Chapdrak Lhamo Kyap, Tenzin Gonpo, Lodoe Namgyal and Tsering Youdon, and for one Utsang deputy are Karma Yeshi and Yeshi Phuntsok.
Earlier, after the preliminary rounds of election, the commission short-listed 16 candidates, 10 for two Domed deputies and six for one Utsang deputy. In between the announcements of the preliminary results and the final list, three Domed candidates and 4 Utsang candidates have withdrawn their nominations. From the remaining seven Domed candidates, the top four candidates who have secured the maximum votes in the preliminaries were selected for the final list in accordance with the regulations for the election of the Tibetan people’s deputies that the number of candidates should be double the number of seats.
Electoral regulations also state that a candidate must secure a minimum of 33 percent of the total votes cast.
