EC Declares Two Contenders for Kalon Tripa

Dharamshala: The names of the final two contenders for the office of Kalon Tripa was declared here today morning by the Chief Election Commissioner of the exile administration.
Speaking at a press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Tashi Phuntsok, said that according to the election rules and regulations, at least two of those with maximum number of votes in the primaries should contest in the final round of election.
The incumbent Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche and Kasur Juchen Thubten Namgyal are the two leading candidates in the primaries conducted on 18 March 2006.
The final round of election of the Kalon Tripa will be conducted across the globe on 3 June 2006.
