
DHARAMSHALA: An 11- day “Early Grade Reading Workshop for Primary Teachers” organised by the Department of Education is currently underway at Mcleaod Ganj. The workshop was inaugurated on 24 May 2015 by Dr. Ngawang Rabgyal, Secretary, Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration. It is being held in two batches of over 30 teachers each from 24 – 29 May & 30 May – 3 June 2015 respectively.
The participants were from Tibetan Schools under the school administration of Central Tibetan Schools Administration (CTSA), Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society (STSS), Tibetan Children’s Villages (TCV), Tibetan Homes Foundation (THF), Snow Lion Foundation, Nepal (SLF) and Munsel School, Spiti.
The Department of Education has been organizing “Early Grade Reading Workshops” since 2014 in its efforts to improve early graders’ academic learning, language development, and intellectual development. Till date around 200 primary teachers have been given EGR workshop. This endeavor has been done in accordance with the recommendation of Education Advisory Committee (EAC) meeting held in June, 2013.
The resource persons for the workshop are Prof. Krishna Kumar and Dr. Latika Gupta from Delhi University.
This workshop is being funded by the USAID through The Tibet Fund.

NEURO-EDUCATIONAL TRANSFORMATION
The Department of Education, CTA has organized a talk on Neuro-Based Education for about 60 key persons including school directors, principals, headmasters, teachers, DoE staff and other invitees on May 23, 2015(AN) at Nyatri Hall, Gangchen Kyishong.
Mr. John Joseph, Director of Focus Education Australia Pvt. Ltd. has presented the talk. The main feature of the talk was intensively about Neuro-educational transformation for teachers and students. Through power point presentation and collections of data he explained how the human brain learns. It presents an unprecedented opportunity to reflect on the vast array of practices that make up teaching and learning, and to determine what actually benefits students in classroom, as well as what needs to change in order to improve learning and make the schooling experience more enjoyable, satisfying and above all productive for all.
In short, the talk was mainly for “how to make our kids more efficient learners, smart learners, critical thinkers and creative thinkers.”

EDUCATION KALON VISITS NCERT, DELHI
Kalon for Education, Mr. Ngodup Tsering visited NCERT, New Delhi on May 22, 2015 to observe the ongoing in-service training program for Mathematics Teachers of Tibetan schools after reaching Delhi from his official visit to Nepal.
Honorable Kalon briefed the participants about the importance and objectives behind giving in-service trainings to the teachers. At the same time Kalon interacted with the participants and faculty members of Department of Education in Science and Mathematics (DESM), NCERT.
Honorable Kalon was happy to find that all the participants were taking active participation in this training program organized by Department of Education, CTA, Dharamsala. All the participants also felt lucky to get this wonderful opportunity to interact with Honorable Kalon and to receive such effective training from highly qualified resource persons of NCERT.
We do hope that after receiving the training, the teachers will make a difference in the teaching learning process in their respective schools.
