Dharamshala: Tibet Policy Institute (TPI) discussed the eighth volume of the institute’s Tibetan Journal on Wednesday, 22 December. The panel discussion, attended by TPI researchers, was chaired by the TPI Director Dawa Tsering, who was accompanied by the journal’s editor Tsering Samdup and Tsewang Topla, one of the writers.
The event commenced with an introductory comment by the Director, who presented a foreword stating the journal contains studies written by Tibetan scholars in exile about Tibetan historical data. He also stressed that articles in the journal followed proper research methodology to enlighten the readers, applauding the contributors for simplified and illuminating treatises. The institute publishes the journal in Tibetan and English language once a year each, Director Dawa Tsering added. Before closing his remarks, the Director explained the follow-up programmes, after which the editor of the journal, Tsering Samdup, reviewed the publication.
Rigmon Tsering Samdup elucidated about the selection of articles mentioning the volume provides fourteen compositions, and the editing was done where it is necessary without losing the essence. He underscored the journal’s objectives during the discourse, stating it aimed to enrich the young Tibetan researchers to enhance their knowledge on Tibet’s rich culture and to build an inclination to analyse Tibet’s culture among students. Furthermore, the journal editor appreciated the fellow staff Ngawang Choekyi for formatting the publication.
Following the editor’s remark, Tsewang Topla, who wrote about the adoption and introduction of the Tibetan national anthem in the journal, spoke about his work narrating the historical accounts of the 1947 Asian Conference, after which Tibet started focusing on the adoption of the anthem.
