Dharamsala, 10 October 2003: If the audience turnout yesterday at the crowning of the second Miss Tibet is anything to go by, Miss Tibet 2003 is a grave miss. Tsering Kyi, the lone contestant was crowned by Dolma Tsering, the first holder of the title.
The crowning celebrations began with a welcome address by the man behind the big show Lobsang Wangyal. Dolma Tsering took part in two pageants last year not as representative of some private organisation but as an envoy of the Tibetan people, he told the gathering which comprised mainly of the local media, participants for today’s music awards and few volunteers.
He said he is not discouraged by the low turnout of people to watch his show which he said must go on at all costs. He said that his Free Spirit Festival tries to bring the Tibetan culture close to the hearts of the Tibetan people who, according to Lobsang, were too narrow-minded which forces people working for the preservation of Tibetan art to flee abroad.

A traditional Tibetan art of story telling with the help of drawings on Thangka, he said, was disappearing since the only Lama Mani in exile is ailing in Dekyiling settlement.
Meanwhile Kyi did not seem excited over her winning the title. During her meeting with the press after the crowing Kyi said she is disappointed with the poor participation in the pageant which she believes can be used as a tool for Tibet cause.
On asked if the rate of the pass is too high for people to afford, Lobsang said he is not worried about money and that he will continue with his event even if there is only one man with a ticket.
