
DHARAMSHALA: Mr Tashi Phuntsok, Secretary of the Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR), Central Tibetan Administration spoke to a group of Indian college students at the DIIR auditorium today.
Secretary Tashi Phuntsok gave a brief introduction of the Central Tibetan Administration, its present structure and policies. He explained the middle way policy of the Central Tibetan Administration to resolve the issue of Tibet peacefully. He also gave a detailed explanation of the evolution of exile Tibetan democratic polity since 1959.
The students will visit the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, Tibet Policy Institute, Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD), Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute (TMAI) and various other Tibetan NGOs.
Over 30 Indian students from about 20 prestigious colleges in India are currently on a month-long educational visit to Dharamshala as part of the Gurukul Programme. The Gurukul Programme is organised by the Foundation for Universal Responsibility of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, based in New Delhi.
The Gurukul programme provides Indian students an extended introduction to Tibetan culture and religion by actively engaging in daily activities of Tibetan life in exile. The participants mainly University students, live in Tibetan monasteries and nunneries where they learn about Tibetan culture, art and philosophy.
