The Department of Information and International Relations is deeply saddened by the demise of its former Information Secretary, Chime Tseyang, who passed away on April 9, 2024. Her commitment and contributions and her exemplary service to the CTA will be remembered with deep respect and admiration.
Former Secretary Chime Tseyang’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her spirit of dedication and her commitment to the Tibetan community will continue to inspire generations to come. Our thoughts and prayers are with the departed secretary’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Chime Tseyang’s dedication to her work was fueled by her deep-rooted inspiration from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the sacrifices of her parents, especially her late father, who served the Tibetan community in the Chauntra Settlement Office tirelessly. She believed in the importance of institutional memory and collaboration, emphasizing the significance of each individual’s contribution to the collective effort towards the Tibetan freedom movement.
Brief Bio: Secretary Chime Tseyang, formerly serving as the Information Secretary at DIIR dedicated a lengthy and illustrious time within the CTA spanning over two decades. Hailing from the Chauntra Tibetan settlement, Chime Tseyang pursued her education at CST Paonta Sahib and Mussoorie, graduating from GCG Government College for Girls in 1995.
Her career with the Central Tibetan Administration began on January 24, 2000, starting as an Under Secretary at the Department of Education. Over the years, she progressed through the ranks, attaining the positions of Deputy Secretary in 2004, Joint Secretary in 2010, and Additional Secretary in 2016. She assumed the role of Additional Secretary at the Department of Information and International Relations on October 1, 2016, eventually being promoted to Information Secretary on September 1, 2020.
As of September 1, 2021, she undertook the responsibilities of Secretary for the Department of Religion and Culture.
Chime Tseyang is survived by her husband, Tenzin Lungtok, who serves as the Justice Commissioner of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission, and their daughter.
