DIIR Kalon to Address Human Rights Workshop

Dharamshala (TibetNet): Lobsang Nyandak Zayul, Kalon for the Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), will speak on the functions and policies of the CTA at a workshop organised by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy. The Kalon will later open the floor for a question-and- answer session.
The 3-day workshop on human rights and democracy is going to held at the Pavilion of Tibetan Culture in Auroville, Tamil Nadu from 26 to 30 January 2006.
The workshop will be participated by over 60 Tibetan students studying in various colleges across India.
On 27 January, Lodi Gyari, special envoy of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, will give an outline of the Sino-Tibetan dialogue process followed by a question-and-answer session.
In the afternoon, executive director of the Tibetan Parliament and Policy Research Centre, Penpa Tsering will speak on concepts and types of autonomy and Tibetan perspectives followed by a question-and-answer session.
The workshop participants will also hear a presentation on the functions of the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies and role of the electorate in democracy from Ugyen Tenzin, executive director of the TCHRD.
During this 3-day workshop, the TCHRD intends to give an overview about Tibetan democracy–structure, functions and shortcomings.
The participants will be taken on an educational sight-seeing tour around the area.
