
DHARAMSHALA: Kalon Dicki Chhoyang of the Department of Information and International Relations, Central Tibetan Administration yesterday spoke to a group of 20 foreign students visiting CTA for an educational tour. The group comprised of students from 15 universities based in the US.
In her address, Kalon Dicki Chhoyang gave a brief introduction of the Central Tibetan Administration and the administrative functions of its seven departments. She explained the workings of the Tibetan democratic establishments, namely the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission, the Tibetan Parliament and the executive Kashag.
Kalon Dicki Chhoyang also spoke about the Middle Way Approach, the official policy of the Central Tibetan Administration to resolve the issue of Tibet through dialogue. “The Middle Way Approach rejects the present repressive and colonial polices of the Chinese government while not seeking separation from the People’s Republic of China. What we are seeking is genuine autonomy in consistent with the constitution of the People’s Republic of China,” she said.
She apprised the visiting students about the critical situation prevailing inside Tibet, particularly the wave of self-immolation protests that swept Tibet since 2009.
The talk was followed by a question-answer session where the students posed questions regarding environmental preservation of the Tibetan plateau, independence and autonomy etc..
The talk was organised by Tibetan and Himalayan People’s program, an organisation based in Nepal.
