
GANGTOK, Sikkim: A two-day comprehensive workshop on Umaylam-The Middle Way Approach was held for Tibetan students studying in colleges at Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim, from 22 -23 October.
Fifteen Tibetan college students took part in the workshop. The workshop focused on interactive, activity-based learning and information sharing with regard to the relevance of Middle Way Approach as a realistic conflict resolution strategy.
The workshop was followed by an indepth talk and question/answer session on the nature, evolution and achievements of the Middle way approach by DIIR Secretary Mr Sonam Norbu Dagpo. The talk was attended by around fifty local Tibetans including representatives from the local Tibetan assembly and non-governmental organisations.
The workshop was facilitated by Mr Tenzin Jamchhen and Mr Jamphel Shonu. It was organised by Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) as part of its campaign to spread awareness about the essence of the Middle Way Approach (Umaylam) among Tibetan youth.
The workshop in Gangtok will be followed by similar such workshops in Kalimpong, Darjeeling and Miao Tibetan settlement in Arunachal Pradesh.
