Brussels: “Tibet is living in this Parliament, although the political life is very, very difficult,” Jacek Saryusz-Wolfski, chairman of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, told the visiting Kalon Tripa.
Mr Saryusz-Wolfski was speaking about how His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to the European Parliament last year has left a lasting impression upon the members.
Kalon Tripa Samdhong Rinpoche also met Dirk Sterckx, chairman of the European Parliament’s China Delegation, and Mr. Franz Jessen, head of the European Commission’s China Unit.
During the exchanges, Kalon Tripa appreciated that the support of European Union has been an important factor in the ongoing dialogue between the representatives of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the People’s Republic of China.
Regarding the long gap since the fifth round of talks, Professor Rinpoche pointed out that although the Chinese leadership has been lacking confidence in further dialogue, the Tibetan people remain committed to follow His Holiness’ guidance.
Kalon Tripa also gave briefings on the preservation of Tibetan people’s identity and culture, along with the protection of Tibet’s fragile environment.
