
DHARAMSHALA: Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, successfully completed his official visit to the US spanning three states including Tennessee, Louisinia and New York.
At their invitation, his first visit was to the Pema Karpo Dharma Centre based in Memphis, Tennessee. He participated in the anniversary functions of the Dharma Centre and gave talks on Tibetan Buddhism, Tibetan language and the political situation inside Tibet to Tibetans during his three-day visit to the center.
From 26 October, he visited the city of New Orleans in Louisiana at the invitation of a few Tibet supporters and Tibetans residing in the city. During his visit, he met several former Tibetan teachers, Tibet supporters and people interested in Tibetan Buddhism. He also spoke about the parliamentary system of Tibetan democracy and the situation inside Tibet to the people.
Following his visit to New Orleans, the Deputy Speaker visited New York City for a three-day program. He gave a public talk to the Tibetan community and visited the Sunday Tibetan language class. He also visited the Tibet Trust and the New York City Hall.
He returned to Dharamshala on 6 November.
