Dehradun: As part of the 11 days Umaylam (Middle Way Approach) Awareness Program, the Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR), CTA, commenced the program at Tibetan Homes School, Mussoorie for a total number of over 170 students from class XI, including students in the arts, sciences, and commerce over three days, respectively, under the direction of staff from the Tibet Advocacy Section, Rinchen and Tsetan Dolma.
This outreach program aims to raise awareness among Tibetan students and enhance their comprehension of the Middle Way approach. The session commenced with “Defining Umaylam for Me”, during which students were grouped, allowing them to individually reflect on what Umaylam means to them. This process enabled them to express their personal and collective sentiments about Umaylam while also gathering essential questions. This exercise facilitated the articulation of their own understanding of Umaylam and promoted peer-to-peer learning rather than relying on direct explanations.
Subsequently, the session transitioned to “Delving Deeper and Enhancing Clarity”. Here, students in the group were given reading materials to delve into different historical aspects of Umaylam. Their task involved evaluating the current state of Tibet, understanding the nature and evolution of Umaylam, and analyzing the memorandum with reference to genuine autonomy. Each group focused on one of the aforementioned topics and were granted the chance to collectively present their insights. This approach fostered a comprehensive comprehension of MWA.
Following this, the DIIR staff made a comprehensive presentation on Umaylam that helped them gain a holistic understanding of MWA and clarify further doubts about MWA.
Concluding the three-day program at the Tibetan Homes School, Mussoorie, the two DIIR staff will proceed to TCV School Selakui to continue the program facilitation for the students there.
