Dharamshala: On the occasion of Parents’ Day, the Department of Education of the Central Tibetan Administration has initiated a discussion on family education concerning the upbringing of children on its website, bodyiglobjong.com.
The project aims to revitalise and preserve Tibetan religion, culture, and language while also serving humanity in line with the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the long run. Its immediate objectives include raising awareness among parents about child-rearing practices, encouraging children to think and communicate in Tibetan, and fostering a meaningful life, particularly in service to the Tibetan cause.
This initiative will involve experts in child-rearing and professionals providing guidance, as well as participation from parents worldwide, including those in exile, sharing their experiences. Additionally, it will provide a platform for children to express their feelings and experiences.
Furthermore, the project will introduce essays and books on child-rearing to the public and facilitate the publication and republication of such works.
Parents’ Day serves as a dual reminder: firstly, for children to express gratitude to their parents, and secondly, as a day for parents, students, and teachers to collectively celebrate. The inception of Parents’ Day dates back to 1977 when it coincided with the birthday of Gyayum Chenmo, Dekyi Tsering, the mother of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. With her approval, the Kashag passed a bill to officially recognise the day. The following year saw the establishment of the parents’ committee, and since then, Parents’ Day has been celebrated annually. The Department of Education has consistently marked the day with a special message for parents and children each year.
