Dharamshala: The Department of Education (DOE), CTA extends its heartiest congratulations to Ms Tenzin Choezom (B.Com) and Sonam Chokey (BBA) for being awarded the Gold Medal for the highest academic rank in the IVth convocation of Dayanand Sagar University, Bengaluru held in presence of Dr. Ashwath Narayan C.N. Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka on 22 January.
Sonam Choekey passed Class X from Lower TCV and XII from CST Mundgod and hails from Chowkur Tibetan Settlement in South India. She says that receiving the gold medal for academic excellence is not only her dream but her parents most cherished dream of and she feels happy for having fulfilled it.
Despite the overwhelming challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic on schools everywhere, Choekey said she made sure to neve miss a class and continued her studies overcoming all the hindrances.
Sharing her mantra for success, Choekey said ‘in order to succeed one should attend classes regularly, pay keen attention in the class and take notes’.
She further said, “If there was no DOE scholarship I don’t think I will be able to pursue my course because I have got immense support from them and without that, it wouldn’t be possible. Lastly, I would like once again thank DOE and I will never forget what you have done to me till now”.
Tenzin Choezom did her schooling from Pestalozzi Dehradun and is from Bylakuppe Tibetan Settlement. Having completed her BBA with excellent performance, she has started MBA course in Kerela. Choezom is happy to have made her parents proud of her achievements. She also plans to provide tuitions to children in her village during her academic breaks.
Her advice to her peers is ‘to not miss a singles class and listen actively in class’.
She thanked DoE for providing her scholarship which has immensely eased her parent’s financial burden. She aspires to do better in future and become an independent woman in future.
“It was a moment of immense pride for the members of the DOE and Tibetans around the world as we watched the live streaming of convocation ceremony. When declaring the names of the two Tibetan gold medallists, the Master of the ceremony said, ‘She is Tibetan National and all the Tibetan are doing very well and they are the brand ambassador of Tibet for us’. I congratulate them both for standing tall and making us proud and our community proud. I hope other students take inspiration and sail along their path to success,” said Sonam Sangmo, Head of Scholarship Section, DoE.
