
Dharamshala: On the final day of his Delhi visit, Kalon Choekyong Wangchuk, Department of Health explored the avenue of meeting with senior politicians and representatives including Shri Kiren Rijiju, MoS, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India; Shri Shanta Kumar, MP, Lok Sabha; Advocate Sulekhatai Kumbhare, Member, Minority Commission, Govt. of India.
During the meeting, Health Kalon shared the significance of Sowarigpa tradition of learning – how it flourished and preserved in Tibet till 1950s and then re-established, expanded and practised since 1961 in Dharamshala, India. He shared the existence of 5 major Institutions and Colleges that impart the learning of Sowarigpa tradition that includes MenTseeKhang, Dharamshala; Faculty Tibetan Medicinal studies, CIHTS, Varanasi; Medicinal Study, IBD, Leh Ladakh; Chagpori Tibetan Medicinal Institute, Darjeeling; Faculty of Medicinal studies, NIT, Gangtok, Sikkim.
Briefing upon the existence of CCTM (Central Council of Tibetan Medicine) which is the apex body of all the institutions, he strongly urged the greater recognition of this Council by giving membership status in Central Council of Indian Medicine of AYUSH Ministry, Govt. of India.
He further elaborated on the wider scope of Sowarigpa traditional learning and its enriched ingredients that may serve larger mankind in curing from bad elements.
