Tibetans have suffered extreme oppression under China’s rule ever since a failed uprising in 1959, and especially in recent years, the Dalai Lama noted in a speech in Yokohama.
Tibet’s spiritual leader also said that the more his people are oppressed, the more they will seek autonomy, in an apparent message to the Chinese Communist Party’s incoming leaders.
The Dalai Lama arrived in Japan on Saturday for a 12-day visit.
