
TAIPEI: The Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile and Secretary for Information and International Relations of the Central Tibetan Administration met with the speaker and parliamentarians of the Taiwanese Parliament in Taipei on Tuesday (30 April).
Welcoming the visiting Tibetan officials at the Parliament’s reception hall, Speaker Wang Jin-Pyng recounted fond memories of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s earlier visit to Taiwan when he addressed the Parliament and gave public teachings. He said Taiwanese people and Chinese living in the US and other countries deeply revere and respect His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
He said he would welcome His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Taiwan, adding that Taiwanese people would be spiritually benefitted by the visit.
He expressed his concern for the Tibetan people and stressed the need to enhance contacts between Taiwan and the Tibetan people.
In his remarks, Tibetan Parliament Speaker Penpa Tsering said a generational transition is taking place in the Tibetan polity with the election of Sikyong as the political head of the Tibetan people.
Responding to the Taiwanese Parliament Speaker’s wish for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit, he said His Holiness has fully devolved his political authority to the democratically-elected Sikyong and his visit would greatly help the Taiwanese people.
He expressed his gratitude for Taiwan’s support for the Tibetan people, and hope for the development of the good relations between Taiwan and Tibetans in exile.
Speaker Penpa Tsering and DIIR Secretary Tashi Phuntsok also briefed the parliamentarians about issue of Tibet.
