DHARAMSHALA: The core group for Tibetan cause campaigners convened a public meeting at the Zomkhang hall in Tawang, the Arunachal Times reported. The meeting was attended by Mr. Sonam Norbu Dagpo, Secretary of the Department of Information and International Relations Central Tibetan Administartion along with local Tibetans and public from the area.
Mr. R.K Khrimey, Convener of the North East States and former Arunachal Minister and Lok Sabha MP, called on the people of the district to unite and rise for the Tibetan cause.
Citing examples of other religions of the world, Khrimey said that the followers of other religions fight for the grace and dignity of their religious leaders while on the contrary Buddhist people only fight for attaining the blessing of the gurus. Differentiating the Tibetan refugees from the other neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bangladeshi and Bhutan, he said that Tibetan refugees are our honoured guests as we have embraced them and promised them protection and rights under the Geneva Convention, the Arunachal Times said.
Dr. N.K. Trikha, National Convener, India, spoke eloquently about the goals and ambitions of the committee while expressing hope that His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama will return to Tibet with full grace and dignity with his people soon.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama has called for a genuine autonomy for Tibet taking the middle path. However, the core group for Tibetan cause demanded full fledged independence for Tibet. He also expressed his optimism for the conferment of Bharat Ratna to the Noble laureate.
“We have submitted a memorandum to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for conferment of Bharat Ratna to His Holiness or Gandhi Peace Prize in case Bharat Ratna cannot be conferred to the ‘Ocean of Knowledge’ due to some norms and conditions, and we are really optimistic about it”, he said.
“The freedom of Tibet is also vital from the defence point of view for India as it faces continuous threat from the Peoples Republic of China”, he added. “If Tibet attains freedom and the Dalai Lama takes over its reigns, India will be threat free from the North”.
He also called on the public to raise their voice, create awareness and shoulder their responsibility for Tibet.
Other dignitaries who attended the meeting include Mr. JP Sharma, regional Convenor (Delhi) and Delhi High court advocate.
The core group for Tibetan Cause also met UD, Tourism, Art & Culture Minister Pema Khandu, at Circuit house and held a interaction with the students body of the district on 8 November.
